About Hotels in Parthenon!

The Parthenon in Athens, Greece, is a mesmerizing ancient temple complex that has captivated people for thousands of years. An iconic symbol of Ancient Greek culture, the Parthenon was originally built to honor the goddess Athena and serve as a place of worship. It stands atop the Acropolis, a rocky hill that overlooks the city center and serves as its most prominent landmark.

The temple was designed by renowned architect Iktinos and constructed between 447–438 BCE using marble from Mount Pentelicus. As one of the world’s most recognizable structures, it is widely considered a feat of engineering and design, with its intricate ornamentation proving to be just as impressive today as when it was first made centuries ago.

The Parthenon features an iconic "peripteral" structure with eight fluted columns on each side, plus two rows at either end, all supporting the gently curved pediment. The sculptural decoration includes two continuous friezes depicting scenes from Athenian life and mythology - one on the east side featuring Theseus freeing Athens from Minotaur captivity; and west side showing Athena being attended by various deities.

Inside the cella stands an 8-meter high ivory statue of Athena wearing her armor dress while carrying an olive branch in her left hand. Completed shortly after 432 BCE this was one of the greatest sculptures ever created and stood until it was taken to Constantinople in 1204 CE by Crusaders during their sacking of Athens.

Today, visitors can still marvel at this timeless masterpiece whose form has remained essentially unchanged for over 2000 years! Its massive presence serves as a reminder of Ancient Greece's historical importance around the world – both culturally and architecturally – providing us with invaluable insights into our past which we can use to inform our present day society and inspire new generations to come!
